The Top 10 Highlights of My Summer | 2016

Summer break is officially over for me, and today was the first day back to school. I am a junior in high school, and it feels like summer went by soo fast! I honestly wouldn't have remembered to wake up for school today if it wasn't for my trusty planner and my annoying alarm clock. Today I am going to be sharing with you a recap of my summer break. I was super busy this summer with working, but also found time for myself.

I worked at a resale clothing store this summer, and it was my first job- besides babysitting and house sitting. I've wanted a real job for a long time, because in the summer I'm always extremely bored and just sitting around the house all day when I have nothing to do. I really like being busy and having a purpose for my day. Working really got me out of my bed and pajamas. I'm still working as a sales associate at this store, and will try to balance school with my part time job.

Another one of my favorite things this summer was volunteering at Camp Invention at an elementary school near my house. Camp Invention is a camp all about thinking and learning. I worked mostly with the 2nd-3rd graders and I absolutely loved it! The kids were so sweet and the counselors all got to think of fun activities and games for the kids. I volunteered as a camp counselor for a week and was sad when the camp ended. I hope I have time to volunteer next year with these kids!

I really enjoyed watching the movie Hunt for the Wilderpeople! If you are looking for something super funny to watch, then definitely go watch this! You will definitely have more than a few laughs.

This summer I have tried to blog more. I got to work with my first company at the beginning of the summer which was super cool! It was such a great experience! I have also tried to better my photography and editing skills!

Practicing yoga was another highlight of my summer break. I practice with my mom and her friend, who is a yoga instructor. I also watch videos on YouTube and practice by myself in my room. I like to watch Yoga with Adrienne, because she's really great at guiding you through the poses with her voice. I hate when I have to keep looking over at my screen to see what the instructor is doing. I took a yoga class at a studio near me as well, which I also found very rejuvenating and awakening. Stretching is so great for you, and I think that yoga is great not only for the body, but also for the mind.

Since I got my license in May, I got to drive by myself this summer. I got to hang out with a lot of my friends which was super fun. We went to the pool and went shopping a lot (there really isn't much else to do where I live).

A small highlight was reading the Mortal Instruments book series. I love these kinds of books that take you into a whole new world where the unimaginable is real!

I watched Grey's Anatomy this summer as well, which I would definitely classify as a highlight. I have watched all the seasons on Netflix, and I'm waiting for the next season to come out on Netflix. I'm watching the sister show called Private Practice, which is all about Addison Montgomery instead of Meredith Grey.

I also went to the beach for a week near the end of the summer. You can read more about my beach vacation here. My family and I stayed at Caswell Beach on Oak Island. It's super close to a bunch of other beaches in North Carolina. The beach trip was a super relaxing way to end my summer!

A week ago, I went to the Gay Pride Parade in Charlotte. I marched with the Moms Demand Action for Gun Safety Group. The parade was packed which was so awesome! There were a lot of other organizations supporting their causes and the parade lasted a few hours. There were some really cool floats, and I also saw my first drag queen!

4 Outfits for 4th of July ♡

Hey guys! I’ve put together a few different looks that are fourth of July themed! I tried to incorporate a lot of red, white and blue (colors of the American flag if you didn’t already know) and a lot of stars and stripes into the outfits. Whether you’re out with your friends watching fireworks or going to a neighborhood barbecue, these looks will have you covered. I hope you guys find some inspiration from these looks when you are putting together your own outfits! Do you guys have any fun plans for 4th of July? If so, comment them down below!

Look 1
fourth of july outfit

I think this outfit is super cute and laid back. I think it would be perfect for watching fireworks in at night or going to a family barbecue. The off the shoulder white shirt also makes this outfit look more bohemian. I love the trend of tie up sandals and I think these ones would be super cute! They are also very versatile and could be dressed up or down.

Look 2
fourth of july outfit 2
Hat / jean jacket / dress / earrings / lipstick / shoes / nail polish / bag

I think this outfit looks super comfortable and effortless. This dress is super flowy and seems very soft. I think adding the jean jacket to this dress makes the outfit more casual and cool. I also love the look of red lips for fourth of July! It's very bold and matches the theme of red, white and blue.

Look 3
fourth of july outfit 3
Shirt / necklace / bag / jeans / watch / blue and silver bracelet / red bracelet / blue bead bracelet / wallet / key chain / shoes

This look is more fancy and chic. It would be perfect for a more fancy brunch, lunch or dinner. This might be one of my favorite looks in this post, because I think the off the shoulder denim top trend is so cute!!! The silver hardware and jewelry dresses this outfit up and looks great with red and blue. It also reminds me of silver stars!

Look 4

Now this outfit is hardcore patriotic. It's like the American flag just hits you in the face. There is so much going on with this look and it would look crazy if you wore it any other day except fourth of July.

Life Update: Acai Bowls, Hanging out at a Park, New Haircut + More ♡

Hey guys! These past few weeks have been super busy. I haven't done a life update blog post in a long time, so I thought it was a good time to do one. I got my first summer job a few weeks ago at a women's resale clothing store. I love working there because the store is always super busy so I am never bored. It's also like I can shop while I'm working. Whenever the employees see something we like, we can put it in the back and buy it later on an employee discount. Last Thursday, June 16 I had the day off, so my friend and I decided to get acai bowls. We went to a food truck called Rico's Acai, which is located downtown. I got the rainbow bowl, and I love how it's aesthetically pleasing and also yummy. It's also super healthy and the fruit is always fresh and tasty.

After we got our acai bowls, we drove to Romare Bearden Park. We found a parking spot right near the park, but we had to parallel park. Unfortunately, neither my friend nor I knew how to parallel park so parking proved to be pretty tricky. What made matters worse was that we were parking right on a busy street. My friend was driving and she ended up backing in and out of the space about 50 times and wasn't really moving positions much at all. At one point I even got out of the car and tried to direct her into the space. We finally got into the space (10 minutes later). We brought my two dogs with us to the park which became a hassle because they kept pulling the leashes and barking at everyone. Above is a picture of my dog Robin.

This turned out to be one hilarious outing. My other dog, Ollie decided to pee on my friend's Birkenstock shoes right as we sat down on our blanket at the park.

Here is a picture of Ollie looking guilty for peeing in her shoes.

I ended up finishing my acai bowl. My friend's bowl melted a little bit and she decided not to finish it. Two dogs were walking past us and my dogs went berserk. Robin tried to run towards the other dogs and ended up knocking over my friend's acai bowl all over my blanket. The food also went all over my friend's phone, car keys and sunglasses.

It was definitely an interesting experience going to the park with my dogs, and I have come to the conclusion that I will not be taking my dogs anywhere public anytime soon.

List of things that got ruined by my dogs
-Birkenstocks (friend's)
-Blanket (mine)
-Car Keys (friend's)
-Sunglasses (friend's)
-Phone (friend's)

Overall, more of my friend's things got ruined than mine. We were able to clean everything which was lucky!

We also decided to bake cookies. This turned out to be sort of a disaster. We didn't have all of the ingredients and then the cookie dough we made ended up being way too powdery. The recipe we found didn't include any liquids other than butter and eggs. We added a few tablespoons of water to make it stick together. We also made the cookie dough balls too big so it took forever to bake. The outsides got extremely hard but the insides weren't ready to be taken out of the oven. The cookie turned out to be pretty good, except for the fact that you had to bit super hard on the outside.

Shop my outfit ♡

Sunglasses // Nordstrom BP
Earrings // Macy's
Romper // Madewell
Nail Polish // Essie
Shoes // Franco Sarto

I also got a haircut last Monday on June 13. I got about 4 inches cut off and my hair felt extremely lightweight after. Since I have layers in my hair, the pieces of hair by my face are shorter and the pieces in the back are longer. I usually don't like when I get a haircut because I like when my hair is really long. I do like my hair at this length though, because it doesn't get as tangly and frizzy.

Life Update: Getting My License + AP Testing ♡

I left school early on Wednesday and took my provisional license test! I passed thankfully and will be getting my plastic license mailed to me in a few days. I took my AP Human Geography exam today and after, my friends and I went to an outlet mall and went shopping. Then, I drove with another friend to Rico's Acai, which is a food truck downtown that sells fruit bowls. Here is a picture of the fruit bowls that my friend and I got! We both got the rainbow bowl, except my friend added nutella to hers. The fruit was super fresh and served as a very yummy snack ♡

Day 1: ICDC DECA Competition + Exploring Nashville, TN ♡

April 22, 2016

Since I was a finalist at the DECA State competition, I qualified to go to Internationals. This year Internationals took place in Nashville, Tennessee (Anaheim, CA is next year!!!). One of the reasons I really enjoyed Nashville was because of the culture! Downtown Nashville had so many cool shops and fun restaurants with live music. I had a really fun time in Nashville and decided to do a travel journal, like when I went to London over Winter break. Hope you enjoy!

Here is a picture of my friend and I riding the bus to Nashville. It usually takes about 6 1/2 hours in a car, but we rode a charter bus so it took about 9 hours. We left at about 8:30 a.m. EST and arrived at our hotel around 4:30 CT. There is a time change from North Carolina to Tennessee, so when we got to Nashville, our clocks went back one hour. I did some homework on the bus, including reading, annotating and colormarking The Tempest for English class. I also just listened to music and relaxed. We stopped a few times for bathroom breaks and for lunch at Breugger's Bagels.

The North Carolina and Colorado schools all stayed at the Holiday Inn Nashville-Vanderbilt, which was extremely close to Vanderbilt University. My room was on the opposite side of the campus, so our view was of the park instead. You can see the Parthenon in the back left corner of this picture. It was a gorgeous view, and we also had a balcony to look out on.

Since we arrived later than expected in Nashville, we just walked around our hotel a little bit instead of going to downtown on the first night. This is a picture of my friend and I getting dressed up for dinner. We wanted to get dressed up tonight and go to a fancy dinner with the rest of our roommates.

Here is another picture with a friend getting ready!

Of course we had to have a photoshoot in the park, while we were all dressed nicely! One of our friends took the camera and snapped a bunch of great shots of us exploring the park.

Here's a picture of us on the steps of the Parthenon.

Here's a great picture of the Parthenon!

We had planned on going to Maggiano's for dinner, but it was a far walk. Instead, we decided to find a nice restaurant near the hotel. We ended up going to a place called J. Alexander's, which was a very fancy restaurant. My friends and I sat in a quiet booth in a corner and talked while eating. For dessert we split this chocolate fudge lava cake, which was extremely good! The four of us finished the cake in about 30 seconds!

After dinner we went back to the park and walked around by the pretty lights. Then we went back to the hotel hotel and hung out with other kids from our school and North Carolina.

March 20-22: NC DECA State Competition ♡

Here's a post about the DECA State Competition I went to in March. I am posting this now because I wanted to do a post about Internationals and realized that I should first do a post about states. So here you go!

This is what I wore on the bus to Greensboro, NC, where the competition was held. My dog is behind me, looking sad that I was leaving. We stayed at a hotel that was across the street from a huge mall, so that's where we ate all of our meals and spent our free time. On the first night, we had an opening ceremony, where everyone wore things to show off their school pride. There were many different schools that came to compete! After the ceremony, everyone went to the dance hosted by DECA, which was very fun!

The next day is when the actual competing began. I was in 3 events, which were 2 Retail Merchandising role plays and 1 Financial Operations Research written event. The role plays were early in the morning and were running late on schedule. The scores of the role plays were combined with a test I had taken at school a few weeks before the competition. I had to quickly finish my role play before rushing to my next event, which is the one that I focused more of my attention on. I did this event with a partner. We wrote a 30 page paper in class prior to the competition and then created a presentation that we presented at States. Once I finished all my events, I went shopping with my friends at the mall and hung out. We ended up getting bored, so we took a Marketing Fundamentals test that they offered, as an extra way to earn an award. I ended up getting proficiency in that test, which means my score exceeded a set grade. Later, we went to an awards session for winners of the role play events and tests. Above is a picture of my friend and I with our crazy hats that our school wore. We also had light sabers and many other glow up toys to show off our spirit.

I won this award at role play and tests award ceremony. I got to go on stage and receive it, because I was one of the top 10 performers on the Marketing Fundamentals test, which I wasn't even planning on taking!

The next day we had another awards ceremony for the winners of the written events. There were finalists medals and then the groups that got top 5 in their event got a trophy. I ended up getting a finalist medal in the Financial Operations Research event and going on stage for the second time. My friend also got one of these medals for her Community Service project.

I also won 3rd place in my research event and was awarded this trophy! I was really excited and happy. A lot of my other friends won trophies too. The people who won trophies have the option of competing internationally, which I decided to do! I also got proficiency pins for my role plays, as well as my research event. We left Greensboro after this ceremony and drove back on the bus for a few hours. I had such a great experience at States!

3 Outdoor Music Festival Outfits ♡

The big Coachella music festival has already ended, but there are a bunch of other smaller outdoor music festivals going on everywhere! The Spring and Summer is the perfect time to go to one, because the weather is nice outside and you can wear long flowy skirts and dresses. I put together 3 outfits for any music festival or concert that you might be attending. I got inspiration from some of the outfits that I saw celebrities wearing at Coachella. They are super cute and I hope they inspire your outfit if you are going to a music event!

Outdoor festival

Red shirt, $26 / Long skirt, $12 / Necklaces, $11 / Shoes,  $45 / Leather handbag, $54 / Bracelets, $38 /Rings, $8.70 / Drop earrings, $6.12 / Beach hat, $30 / Round sunglasses, $66

I think wearing a long maxi skirt with a crop top is super cute! The long skirt balances out the crop top, and is perfect for hot weather. I also think lace up sandals are really fun make any outfit look more interesting. A hat is always nice for protecting your skin from the sun. This boho jewelry is also really nice, because it can be stacked and matched with other jewelry. Sunglasses are definitely an essential, and I think these pink aviators go perfectly with this outfit!

Festival look 2

Shirt, $13 / Denim cutoff shorts, $88 / Sandals, $129 / Clutch, $20 / Flash tattoos $15 /
Blue bracelet, $28 / Pearl bracelet, $85 / Beaded wrap bracelet, $38 / Necklace, $20 /
Head wrap, $11 / Lens glasses, $33

This outfit is a little more hipster. I think these long gladiator sandals would look super cute with high waisted shorts, so you can show them off to people without them hiding under a skirt or a dress. A cool way to wear a bandana is to tie it as a head wrap for your hair! I love the look of beaded bracelets and layered necklaces. I also think flash tattoos are a great way to add some fun and and shimmer to your look!

Festival look 2

Dress, $22 / Sandals, $45 / Boho purse, $49 / Multi color necklace, $26 / Rings, $9/
 Topshop hat, $48 / Sunglasses, $66

If you wear any kind of white clothing article, I definitely think you should pair it with some colorful accessories and jewelry! This tasseled necklace and clutch add fun pops of color and more to your outfit. I also think leather sandals are a nice basic for anyone, because they match almost anything. The rose gold sunglasses are super stylish and the hat tops off the look.

4.15.16//Sweet 16 ♡

Friday was my 16th birthday! I can't remember the last time my birthday fell on a Friday, and it was nice to not have to worry about school work and waking up early the next morning. I had a fun and easy school day, and then got ready for my birthday party! My mom and I picked up cupcakes from Polka Dot Bakery (we took their last supply) and got a balloon and candles. I met up some of my friends at a pizza and pasta restaurant called Luisa's Brick Oven ♡

Here is a picture of my friend and I at Luisa's. I am wearing my birthday princess crown! Here are some other pictures of my friends and I!

Spring Break Beach Essentials + What to Bring in Your Beach Tote ♡

Spring Break is on its way, and I know a bunch of people who are going to the beach! Here is a list of things that I think are must haves for going to the beach and bringing in your beach bag. I hope everyone has a fun Spring Break and gets a nice, relaxing break from work or school! If you haven't already, please take my survey for a school project I'm doing on cosmetic animal cruelty (click here). Thanks and enjoy! ♡

Towel (John Robshaw)-
Definitely don't forget a towel when you go to the beach! This one is really cute, because it has fun little tassles and patterns on it. You will need a towel to dry yourself off with if you go swimming obviously, or to just lie on the beach with.

Hair Ties (Emi-Jay)-
Bring extra hair ties in your makeup bag, because you may want to put your hair up if it's really hot. Also if you don't want to get your hair wet then you'll want to put your hair in a bun. I like the cloth hair ties, because they don't leave creases in your hair, and they come in pretty colors and patterns.

Lip Balm (EOS)-
Chapstick is great to have at the beach, because the heat can dry your lips out, so it's important to moisturize them. Also, some chapstick has SPF in it, which will protect your lips from getting chapped and burned.

Tote (Lilly Pulitzer)-
You should bring a big tote or beach bag with you, so you can fit your towel in it, as well as all your other essentials. This one from Lilly Pulitzer is really beachy and vibrant!

Dry Shampoo (Batiste)-
If your hair gets greasy or sweaty, you can spray some dry shampoo on your hair. This will make your hair smell good, and will also make it look fresh and clean.

Water Bottle (Kate Spade)-
It is extremely important to hydrate yourself when you're at the beach, because you lose a lot of water when you sweat. Water has many important functions, and it's important to drink half your body weight in ounces every day.

Flip Flops (Aeropostale)-
You want to bring shoes that you can easily slip on and slip off, so that you don't have to worry about a bunch of straps when quickly taking your shoes off at the beach. You also don't want to bring expensive shoes, because your shoes will get dirty and sandy when you walk on the beach.

Hair Brush (Tangle Teezer)-
When your hair gets wet, you want to use a comb or a brush specifically for wet hair when brushing it. Wet hair breaks a lot easier than dry hair, so you want to be careful about the brush you use. The Tangle Teezer brush is great at untangling your hair, and the bristles aren't very rigid, so they won't pull out your hair.

Mascara (Maybelline)-
If you wear makeup while at the beach, make sure it's water proof! Even if you don't go swimming in the ocean, wear waterproof makeup, because you don't want it to sweat off.

Magazine
Bring a book or a magazine to read while you lay out in the sun, so you have something to do! The beach is a great place to catch up on some reading.

Phone Case (Lifeproof)-
If you bring your phone to the beach, put a waterproof phone case on it to protect it from getting damaged if you accidentally get it wet. You can also bring a plastic sandwich bag, slip your phone inside and seal it, which will keep your phone dry if your fingers are wet. Don't try this when you go into the ocean though, because water will diffuse through the seal into the bag.

Sunglasses (Steve Madden)-
Sunglasses are a stylish way to protect your eyes from the sun. There are a bunch of different styles to choose from, and there are certain frame shapes that will flatter certain face shapes. I like mirrored aviators personally!

Sunglasses Case (Madewell)-
Bring a structured sunglasses case, to keep your sunglasses from getting smushed or breaking in your beach bag.

Sunglasses Strap (Lilly Pulitzer)-
Use a sunglasses strap to keep your sunglasses always on you. This will prevent you from losing them, and you won't have to carry them everywhere if you don't feel like wearing them on your head all the time.

Makeup Bag (Pour la Beaute)-
Bring a makeup bag or a small cosmetic bag in order to store things like makeup and hair items. You may want to bring a plastic one, which won't get damaged if it gets wet and water won't sink through.

Nail Polish (Dior)-
If you get bored at the beach you can also paint your nails. While they're drying you can read your magazine or book.

Sunscreen (Banana Boat)-
Sunscreen is a must if you're going anywhere sunny! It's important to get a sunscreen with a high SPF.

Bronzer (NARS)-
If you want to bronze your face a little, then you can brush on some powder bronzer, which will give you a healthy glow.

Shirt (Billabong)-
Bring a loose fitted tank top or t-shirt, so you can easily slip it on and off of your swimsuit. You don't want to bring a tight shirt, because it will feel uncomfortable if the swimsuit your wearing under it is still a little damp.

Highlighter (Benefit)-
Bring a highlighter if you want a little shimmer and glow on your face!

Bikini (Beautiful Halo)-
Of course you need a swimsuit if you are going to the beach! I really like this blue high neck bikini!

Shorts (Nike)-
Bring athletic shorts to slip over your swimsuit. Jean shorts will be uncomfortable to put on after you've been in the ocean.

Sea Salt Spray (OGX)-
To add texture and volume to your hair, spray in some sea salt spray. This makes your hair look perfectly tousled and beachy.

Baseball Cap (Roxy Go Live)-
Bring a hat to cover your face, which will prevent your face from getting burned. There are some really cute caps from Brandy Melville and Urban Outfitters!

Other-
Playing cards, frisbees, beach balls, volleyballs and soccer balls are perfect things to bring for a fun day at the beach.

Thanks for reading! I hope this list helped you for your Spring Break! ♡

Casual St. Patrick's Day Outfit, Makeup and Hair Look ♡

Here is a fun outfit that is perfect for a St. Patrick's Day party or if you just want to be more festive! This outfit incorporates a lot of green and is more casual and laid back than the other outfit I put together in my previous post. I hope everyone has a lucky St. Patty's Day! ♡

Earrings- Party City
Bracelets- JCPenney
Stickers- Party City
Sneakers- Nordstrom
Socks- Overstock
Necklace- Party City
Phone Case- Cafe Press
Long Sleeve Shirt- Etsy
Leggings- Calvin Klein
Headband- Kirklands
Oil Blotting Sheets- Sephora
Mascara- Bobbi Brown
Lipstick- Smashbox
Purse- Michael Kors
Foundation- Urban Decay
Primer- Clinique
Bronzer- Lorac
Eyeshadow- NYX
Eyeliner- YSL

This outfit is pretty crazy and out there, but it shows a lot of spirit for St. Patrick's Day. You can add fun inexpensive decorations to your look such as stickers, headbands, earrings, plastic bracelets and necklaces. I suggest getting these things from a party store, such as Party City because you can usually find a lot of cool stuff that's really inexpensive. Since this is a casual outfit, I would wear my hair in a loose pony tail or bun, with some pieces hanging out to frame my face. You should keep a clean looking face with a lightweight foundation and adding some shimmery bronzer. Finish the look with a swipe of red lipstick, which will look great with all the green.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post and found inspiration for your St. Patrick's Day look!

Fancy St. Patrick's Day Outfit, Makeup and Hair Look ♡

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner- March 17th! I usually don't celebrate or do much on St. Patrick's Day, but I wear a little pop of green sometimes. I have put together a look that is St. Patrick's Day themed. I think this kind of look would be great if you are going out to eat and just want a few little subtle pops of green without going all out. It's pretty sophisticated and chic, and the outfit won't hurt people's eyes when they look at you, because it incorporates darker greens! ♡

Bracelet- Alex & Ani
Necklace- Dogeared
Makeup Bag- TopShop
Lipstick- NARS
Jeans- TopShop
Phone Case- Michael Kors
Eyeliner- Clarins
Foundation- Too Faced
Mascara- Lorac
Perfume- Jo Malone
Primer- Smashbox
Eyeshadow- Urban Decay
Bronzer- Lorac
Brow Gel- Anastasia

I think this outfit is perfect for St. Patrick's Day, because it looks like a regular outfit, but still throws in some green spirit! You can add small little clover accessories and other lucky symbols. For the makeup, I think it's great if you throw in a red lip color, because red and green compliment each other perfectly (they are complimentary colors after all!). You don't want to have too much red mixed in with your green, because that will look too Christmasy. Green eyeliner will also be a nice pop of color, and the silver eyeshadow will make your eyes stand out even more. For hair, I would do a loose messy ponytail or curl it!

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed the post and found inspiration for your St. Patrick's Day look!
